Developing a sound strategy is an important first step, but strategy is nothing until it is executed.

Very often, a strategy development offsite meeting takes place, the strategy is documented, some communication sessions are held, a few initiatives are launched – and then, after a period of weeks or months, the energy fizzles out, and everyone goes back to “normal”.

Another approach is to restructure the organisation, make some strategic hires, and hope the new strategy will “just happen”.

You have been around long enough to know that neither of these approaches is sufficient. Yet it is not always clear what you need to do. After all, you still have to meet “business as usual” demands today while creating a different tomorrow. You have to manage change, possibly on many levels – structural, behavioural, process, and technological. No wonder even competent and experienced managers struggle with strategy execution.

At Strategy2Life, we support leaders of businesses and specialist functions (Finance, IT, HR, Risk, etc.) to translate vision to reality. Our services include:

1. Strategy review – to review how your organisation is progressing against your strategy, as perceived by key stakehoders;

2. Operating model (re-)design and implementation – to re-align your structure, capabilities, processes and systems with a new strategy;

3. Execution planning – to align key people to the new strategy, clarify the vision, create measures, and define key milestones for the execution journey;

4. Execution management – to create management systems and processes to support and sustain execution, including the possibility of establishing a project/program portfolio management office (PPMO);

5. Project portfolio management – to break down the strategy into goals and objectives, and identify initiatives required to achieve the strategic outcomes;

6. Program management – to lead a group of related initiatives that contribute to one or more strategic outcomes;

7. Project startup– to develop the concept, strategy and business case for a strategic initiative;

8. Execution capability development – to identify capability gaps; to provide role modelling, training and coaching to lift an organisation’s execution capability.

Because change is implicit in any strategy execution endeavour, change management principles are embedded in everything we do.

Depending on your situation, you may need help with just one, or most of these aspects of strategy execution. We will partner with you, your key people, and other internal and external specialists to bring your strategy to life.
